Five Statements about Abraham
(Romans 4:13-25)
I.
“Who, contrary to hope, in hope believed” (4:18a).
A. A
child in his old age and land as a possession (Gen. 17:1-8).
B. Christians believe contrary to
hope (Romans 5:1-5).
II.
“Not being weak in faith” (4:19a).
A. Abraham’s Faith was Strong
(Genesis 12:1-3).
B. We must not have a weak faith (Luke 17:5-10).
III.
“He did not consider his own body” (4:19b).
A. Abraham did not allow the
condition of his body to deter his faith.
B. Serving Christ calls on us to forgo the consideration of
the body (Galatians 5:16,17).
IV.
“He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief” (4:20a). (Genesis 17:9-14; Romans
4:11,12).
A. How could Abraham have wavered?
B. How do we waver? (1 Kings 18:21).
V.
“Being fully convinced that what He had promised He was able to perform” (4:21).
A. The sacrifice of Isaac (Genesis
22:1-3; Hebrews 11:17-19).
B. Are we persuaded that God will
keep His promises? (Matthew 16:25).
